A look inside the Sleep Medicine Center, Vascular Lab

Susan M. Moyer, REEGT, RVT, neurodiagnostic and vascular technologist at Paoli Hospital's Sleep Medicine Center, performs diagnostic procedures of the brain, central nervous system and vascular system. Procedures include electroencephalograms monitoring of the brain wave activity to help in the diagnosis of epilepsy, metabolic disorders, headaches, structural disturbances and other related neurological disorders. Nerve conduction and electromyography procedures provide diagnostic information in the detection of central nervous system disorders, such as carpal tunnel, tarsal tunnel, nerve impingement, as well as related nervous system disorders.

Cynthia Shillingsburg, CA, RVT, RVS, vascular sonographer at Paoli Hospital's vascular services, says her facility offers a comprehensive vascular lab with vascular specialists and neurologists reading the vascular studies to allow for professional input specific to the patient's problem.

Debbie J. Eddinger, BSed, RVS, REEGT, oversees the clinical administration and operations of all departments. Eddinger is pictured in front of the state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment used to perform vascular procedures that help identify processes that compromise arterial and venous flow in the neck, abdomen and extremities. Advances in ultrasound technology have increased accuracy in diagnosing vascular abnormalities, such as arterial stenosis, claudication, acute ischemia, DVT, graft surveillance, aneurysms, venous reflux and other related vascular disorders.

Eddinger reviews vascular procedures sent to a PACS. Physicians can access all vascular procedures in a central location to review and generate reports.

The Neurodiagnostic/Vascular Center at Paoli Hospital performs a wide variety of non-invasive, diagnostic tests of the brain, nervous system and circulatory system.

Using state-of-the-art digital equipment that allows them to share information with referring physicians and other specialists at the area's network of hospitals makes this neurodiagnostic laboratory a leader in the field.

In addition, Paoli Hospital features the Sleep Medicine Center, which is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. At this center, sleep specialists provide complete diagnosis and treatment services.
