3T Scanner

Things have really changed over the past few years in pediatric MRI. This week we are receiving training on our new 3T scanner--I am so excited Children's Healthcare of Atlanta now has a 3T scanner! I started on a .2T MR scanner years ago and even though the image quality was "OK" it was so slow! For pediatrics, you must consider speed in all your purchases so the 3T will enable us to scan patients in less than 30 minutes in most circumstances.

Trista,
Congrats on your new 3T. I'am a new 3T GE HDX user in the field of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota. We are the only dedicated 3T for large and small animals in the United States. I have worked on 1.5 systems for the past 10 years and this is an amazing scanner. I know you are in the early phases but if and when you have refined protocols I would welcome the opportunity to chat with you. We have the Mayo wrist coil that is used for small FOV imaging and have yet to find some ideal sequences. Yes, I agree scan times can be faster but some of the artifacts I have seen will have to master how to control them.

All of our patients are under general Anesthia, which we have integrated into the scan room which is a big plus.

We have our first Equine (horse) scheduled for the first week in February. This will be a challenge! I will keep an eye on this blog and feel free to contact me at stewa468@umn.edu

Have fun & Happy Scanning...
