Here at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, we are in the process of major renovations and expansion. Our Radiology department will almost double in size. The MRI department will now be in the same area as Radiology. As with most MRI departments, we were located in the basement on the other side of the hospital. This relocation will be done in stages in order to prevent any service disruption to our patients. The first step will be the installation of a Siemens 3T Trio MR system. The 3T will be a huge asset to our neuro and orthopedic programs. We will then be moving our two 1.5T scanners to the new area. As a final piece to our renovation, our Symphony scanner will be upgraded to an Avanto. Our existing Avanto has recently been upgraded to an 18 channel in preparation for the new MRI suite. Finally, this summer we will be installing an interoperative MRI (iMRI) system.

What would you say were the biggest challenges that your technologist had to face during this process? How did you resolve those issues? Have you noticed any inconvenience to the patients during the renovation process? Did this renovation process include more waiting space for your patients and playground that is better?
