Children's Acquires PET/CT

On April 23, 2008, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta opened our new PET/CT suite at Children's at Egleston. Implementing a new technology can be challenging due to the learning curve for staff, but also because the technology may be unknown by referring physicians. To assist with education to referring physicians, the Radiology department at Children's has communicated the benefits of PET/CT via our internal and external web sites. In addition, we provided information regarding ordering exams and insurance authorization in physician newsletters and direct mail. Since the new suite opened, our facility is reaching our proposed PET/CT volume targets--thanks in part to the education provided to our referring physicians.
