I understand to say it is negotiable, but most of the times these employers want a figure, a range, etc.
How do I go about answering this difficult question early in the process/
WHen it comes to that, it can be tricky.
I always tell new grads to say negotiable.
As far as "seasoned" techs, it really depends on the individual. Not everyone is money driven, other factors can be more important (location, shift, benefits, training, etc). Also, you really have to factor in what your bills are, because obviously you have to make enough to pay them. But, when a job offer comes in at $1 less than what one was hoping for, I really do not feel that that amount should justify a declination of an offer. The bottom line is that one probably wouldn't even notice $1 less an hour.
