In what kind of setting do you practice?
I practice in a mid-size hospital. Its part of a system of five hospitals and I teach at Miami Dade College- Medical Center Campus, which is America's largest institution of higher education that provides accessible and affordable high-quality education by keeping the learner's needs at the center of the decision-making process, and working in partnership with its dynamic and multicultural community.

Please describe what it's like working in that kind of setting.
Hospital: I like the fast pace environment that a hospital our size has to offer. It's been very exciting to be part of all the new technological advances that have emerged in our field in the last few years. College: having a large group has its pros and cons but for the most part I like a big class, 35 plus students. More ideas, more interaction and more papers to grade, but I love it.

How/why did you get into your particular field?
I had a passion for the medical field since I was a young kid. I knew when I grew up I wanted to help and care for others. I combined my love for photography and medicine, it led me to radiology – better known as imaging now a days. Teaching happened by accident and I loved it, so I continue doing it.

What are your greatest professional accomplishments thus far?
Wow, I have so many to be thankful for. But, I think in a small way, I have been able to give back to my profession: teaching, mentoring, coaching and inspiring others. Making people (students and technologist) believe in themselves and watching them achieve their dreams

What are your professional goals for the future?
Someday get a doctorate degree in healthcare education. I would like to continue to teach, mentor and help others in our profession.

As a second year student of Mr. Casanas, I have been very inspired by Jorge in both the class room setting and the clinical setting. He always has time to help any student or technologist. His presence in the department helps to motivate Technologists to do the best job possible. I am honored to say that I was one of his students.

Mr. Casañas has truly been a mentor and a great teacher. His classes are challenging but very enjoyable. He has inspired me to be a great professional even when I doubted I could achieve it. THANK YOU!!!.

The radiology field should be very proud to have a member with the knowledge, dedication, and charisma of Jorge Casanas. He is a great role model for students, co-workers, and everyone that knows him. He inspires every one around him to have confidence in themselves and to do their best. I am a first-year student in the Radiography program at Miami Dade College. It has been an honor and a great pleasure to have him as my teacher and mentor.

Wow…, your students surely like your approach to teaching. I guess there will be no question who will be the next teacher of the year for your school. I also had an excellent teacher while going through my radiology program. I had a teacher that thought me more than most that I had. We, the students owe you, the educators, so much more than just the knowledge you give us… There is no better roll model than an excellent educator!
