In what kind of setting do you practice? Please describe what it's like working in that kind of setting.
Howard Reis: I work in the main office for Imaging On Call which is based in Poughkeepsie, NY. I also spend as much time as possible with both existing customers and new prospects.
Brian Phelan: Teleradiology practice providing both preliminary and final interpretations for night time ER coverage as well as daytime sub-specialty and overflow needs. It is a great environment that deals with different challenges everyday. I enjoy the focus on making patient care better while practicing good medicine.
How/why did you get into your particular field?
Reis: I worked in early telemedicine trials in the early 1990s while working for NYNEX Corporation. After spending many years in the telecommunications industry I recently had the opportunity to join a teleradiology provider who was putting into practice what had been lab trials in my earlier life.
Phelan: Luck. I stumbled upon teleradiology while in the PACS/RIS market space.
What are your greatest professional accomplishments thus far?
Reis: My greatest personal accomplishments have been the ability to work with several state-of-the-art technologies from online banking to electronic publishing to high-speed data communications to teleradiology. At each stop along the way, I have had the opportunity to work with great professionals, many of whom remain friends today.
Phelan: Getting the opportunity to lead at a challenging, growing company like IOC and work with a great group of people every day.
What are your professional goals for the future?
Reis: My goal is to help Imaging On Call to achieve its potential as a truly world-class provider of teleradiology services.
Phelan: To continue to build a company that provides a service that can impact healthcare for the greater good.
