The coastal town of Norwalk, Conn., combines seaside charm with modern-day culture. Whether on land or sea, there's always something to do in this quaint town.

The historic streets of Sono, or Southern Norwalk, are lined with restaurants, nightclubs and shops of all kinds. Stop by the New England Brewing microbrewery or catch the latest film at the Sono Regent Theaters. The Annual Sono Arts Celebration rolls into town every August, filling the streets with music and entertainment. And for a good old-fashioned history lesson, visit the Norwalk Museum, also the town's former city hall.

Not too far from Sono is the Lockwood-Matthews Mansion. This historical Victorian palace is open to anyone who cares to explore its beauty.

A short ride on the Seaport ferry will land you on Sheffield Island, home to the 10-room Sheffield Island Lighthouse. Climb your way to the top for a rewarding view of the New York City skyline. The lighthouse was in service until 1902 and now serves as a reminder of the
19th-century lightkeepers' lifestyle, showcasing period furniture and a glimpse into the past.

You can also explore the Maritime Aquarium, Cranbury Park and Stew Leonard's, the world's largest dairy store.
