ASRT Conference Preview
Getting back to the basics

Categorical Courses
Before you partake in all of the social events, remember: You're here for an education. Fortunately, the courses offered at this year's meeting are top-notch and sure to grab your attention.
One course that promises to interest participants is "Breast Cancer Risk Factors and Breast Pathology." Held on Saturday, this course discusses the variety of risk factors associated with breast cancer and how to distinguish benign from malignant mammograms. In addition, this course will explore the issue of male breast disease and post-surgical breast changes. Still need another incentive to attend? Participants will also have the opportunity to receive two Category A CE credits.
Another session that will draw in attendees is Saturday's "PACS and Healthcare Informatics: Career Pathways for Radiographers." Since RTs often transition into the roles of PACS administrators, this course is vital for all attendees considering a career change. According to the ASRT, "This course outlines the pathways that expert radiographers can pursue to take advantage of the increasing advancement opportunities represented by roles related to PACS and enterprisewide image management." Don't miss out.
Also, another stand-out course is Saturday's session, "Quality Management 101 and 102: Establishing Quality Indicators for Medical Imaging." Divided into two segments, the first part of the course will explore the development and utilization of radiologic indicators; the second segment will discuss the tools new quality managers will need to successively perform their jobs. In addition, participants will receive two Category A CE credits for attending.
Downtime Delights
After a long day of courses, you want nothing more than to enjoy a little rest and relaxation, right? Wrong!
You can sleep when you're home; after all, ASRT's conference only comes once a year.
Unleash your inner disco diva (or divo) at the ASRT Education and Research Foundation's annual conference social event, "A '70s Rock Party." Held on Saturday night, this event is bound to be memorable. But don't forget to pack your grooviest pair of polyester pants: A contest for the funkiest threads will take place. Interested in partaking in the disco fever? Tickets are available for $29.
Also, make sure to attend Monday night's "ASRT Installation of Officers and President's Reception." Join your colleagues in bidding farewell to the retiring members of the ASRT Board of Directors, and applauding the newest Board members. Although this affair is included in attendees' ASRT Governance Package, interested individuals should select this event when filling out their registration forms.
Finally, don't miss out on the opportunity to sightsee in Albuquerque. Situated in historic New Mexico, Albuquerque offers visitors a variety of attractions, ranging from neighborhood walking tours to the KiMo Theatre. And, be sure to check out the bustling Old Town. Located in the heart of the city, Old Town is Albuquerque's hotspot for great Western fare, entertainment and nightlife.
See you next month!
